Artistic Leader
Franck Ollu is artistic leader of KammarensembleN
since autumn season of 2003.


Franck Ollu
Franck Ollu was born in La Rochelle, France, and studied
music in Paris. In 1990 he moved to Frankfurt as he became
the principal horn player of the Ensemble Modern.  

He started conducting in 1999 when he assisted John Adams for Ives’ Symphony no. 4 with the Ensemble Modern. In the same year, he became the assistant conductor for the Ensemble Intercontemporain. He now appears with Ensemble Modern on a regular basis as a conductor, and has since then conducted ensembles and orchestras throughout Europe, America and Australia.

The groups with whom he has worked most regularly include: Ensemble Recherche and Musikfabrik (Germany); Orchestre du Conservatoire de Paris and Ensemble Inter- contemporain (France); KammarensembleN (Sweden); Asko Ensemble (Netherlands); Avanti Ensemble (Finland); Remix Ensemble (Portugal); Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Elison Ensemble (Australia).

Ollu has premiered works by many contemporary composers. Recent premieres include works by Hans Zender, Peter Eötvös, Emmanuel Nunes, Brian Ferneyhough, Wolfgang Rihm and Heiner Goebbels.

He has appeared as a conductor at the Berliner Fest- wochen, Lincoln Center Festival in New York, Theatre Colonn in Buenos Aires, Musica Nova in Munich, Holland Festival in Amsterdam, Festival d’Automme in Paris and the Musica Nova festival in Helsinki. 

In the 2004/05 season, Franck Ollu will appear with the Ensemble Modern for the first performances of an opera
by Olga Neuwirth. The opera will be premiered in Graz, Vienna, Cologne, Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and finally at Carnegie Hall in New York. Alongside this new production, he will appear with the Ensemble Modern for other projects, and will lead concerts with the Kammar- ensembleN, Remix Ensemble, the London Sinfonietta and the Elison Ensemble.
