Niklas Andersson was born in 1962 in Gothenburg, where he studied at the Music Academy with Sten Pettersson.
He graduated in 1984, and continued
to study, first in Antwerp at the Royal Flemish Conservatory with Walter Boeykens,
where he got
a First Prize in 1985, and later in London at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies,
where he received a Diploma in 1986, having studied with
John McCaw.
In 1987 Niklas was appointed principal clarinettist
in Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and the following year
he took up the same position in Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra. In 1992 he joined the Swedish Radio Symphony
Orchestra as co-principal clarinettist.
Niklas is also a member of the contemporary music group KammarensembleN and the Amadé Wind Quintet, with whom
he has recorded several CD:s.
He has recorded Edvin Kallstenius' clarinet quintet together with the Lysell Quartet; a great number of 20th century
wind quintets with the Amadé Quintet; and Daniel Nelson's clarinet concerto with the
Västerås Sinfonietta.
As a soloist Niklas has performed with Swedish orchestras both at home and abroad, working with conductors such as
Sakari Oramo, Okko Kamu, Roy Goodman, Tamas Vasary, Hannu Koivula, Thomas Dausgaard, David Porcelijn, Jin Wang and Josep Caballé-Domenech.
